Hi I need to dry line the walls of my 'house' and im using the metal rail system. Im putting some insulation between the studs in an effort to reduce the effect of the bitter Burgundy winter. My research suggests I place the studs at 400mm centres which sounds reasonable as this is what I would use with timber. The problem is, all the insulation available here seems to be 600mm wide. This would mean a lot of cutting of difficult/nasty/itchy material to make it fit between the studs. Any comments?

Hi Simon

Never cut corners by setting the metal rails at 600, this will result in the wall flexing as there will not be enough support.Set the rails every 400 which will give a far better result. You will have to cut the insulation, but I used the placo with the poly insulation on the back which worked a treat and was easy to do.

regards j

When we put the metal framework up for the pb we fixed the uprights(set at 400) to the wall using horizontal rail on the stone wall and the uprights screwed into the montant. We did this as it did seem a bit flimsy. The result was excellent

My husband is a professional and I am pretty sure he puts the insulation at right angles to the rails!
