Major Annual Events Throughout the RegionMediaeval Festival (May)Mediaeval themed festival in Semur-en-Auxois. Celebrated during the Pentecostal weekend in May, the town hosts crafts markets, mediaeval theatrical events and concerts, and a traditional horse race.
Les Montgolfiades (May)An official European Hot Air Balloon competition, this yearly event takes place each May. With over 50 participating teams, the festival also includes demonstrations, games, music and shows.
Blues Festival (June)Annual blues festival in Le Creusot that takes place during the last weekend of June. The largest blues event in Burgundy has been running since 1996. A range of blues, jazz, and gospel can be listened to in an open-air surrounding in the Parc de la Verrerie. Activities and performances for children run throughout the weekend.
Sun Festival (July)A combination of music, art and nature, the main goal of the festival is to get the public back in touch with the environment. Sports activities available include climbing, mountain biking, horse back riding, races, canoeing and kayaking, Frisbee and more. Music and theatre activities range from dance classes and painting classes to small concerts and dances. Activities to increase the public's awareness of the nature include debates, round-table discussions, games, nature walks and more. Events take place in the Parc Natural Régional du Morvan at the Lac des Settons.
Foire Internationale et Gastronomique de Dijon - International Food Festival (October, November)One of the top food events in France, this festival features hundreds of stalls presenting regional and national food and wines. For restaurant professionals there are also a number of stalls that specialise in products for the food industry, including clothing and furniture. International artisans are also present at the festival.
D’Jazz Nevers, (early November)Since 1987 the festival encourages people to come and listen to jazz in Nevers and the département of La Nièvre, with over 25 different groups performing throughout the town and more throughout the department.
Grands Vins de Bourgogne Festival (mid-November)This annual wine festival in Beaune provides an opportunity for wine-lovers to taste over 1,500 wines. Wine producers from all over the region attend the event.
