With over 8,000 Km of rivers and canals and 1,500 Km of lakes and dams, the region provides many opportunities for fishing. Species found in the waters of Burgundy include carp, pike, sander, bream, perch, tench, catfish, trout, and salmonids. River & Lake FishingFishing is a widely practiced, popular sport in the many rivers and lakes of the Burgundy region which provide prime fishing. Most commonly caught are fountain salmon, pike and rainbow trout. The sport is, however, strictly policed for ecological reasons, and all restrictions must be adhered to. Fishing areas fall into two categories, each of which has different permit requirements and seasons. It is forbidden to fish without a fishing permit (Carte de Pêche). The local Mairie provides dates for the season and information on where to buy a permit. The different Carte de Pêche available are:

Fishing in the Côte d’OrThe Fédération de Côte d’Or pour la Pêche et la Protection du Milieu Aquatique is the overseeing body for the department. Its website (in French) has much information on fishing in the region, open seasons, fishing areas, fishing associations and provides a series of maps of local fishing areas. Point Peche in the Côte d’OrSeveral tourist offices have a Point-Pêche (fishing points) with a range of information about local fishing including maps and guides.

Fishing in Saône-et-LoireThe Fédération de Saone et Loire pour la Pêche et la Protection du Milieu Aquatique is the leading organisation for fishing in the department.
Fishing is allowed 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset. Point- Pêche in Saône-et-Loire
Fishing in the YonneFishing is allowed a half-hour before sunrise and a half-hour after sunset. Some reservoirs allow night fishing.
The Yonne has 11 fishing spots classed as Handipêche, which are wheel chair accessible.
