SNCF Trains & Railways in Burgundy

Route maps and booking information for the national rail service, regional trains and the urban train network: to help you find your way around Burgundy.
  • SNCF is the national train service for France. The website allows for a route and timetable search and online booking. It has an English-language website: Click here
  • TER SNCF is the regional French rail system. The timetable can be browsed online. Tickets can also be booked online. Information booklets with train times and destinations for a local or longer trips are available at all stations and some tourist offices 
  • TGV is the fast train network in France. Bookings must be made in advance. In Burgundy there are TGV stations in Montbard, Dijon, Beaune, Le Creusot, Chalon-sur-Saône and Mâcon. 
Local Burgundy Train Services

Locally within the region, trains are operated by TER SNCF. The website has searchable timetables and allows online booking. 

Ticket information is available at any train station or by telephone.

Many travel agents are also SNCF agents and are permitted to sell tickets for local, national and international travel.

Mobigo is the transport network for Burgundy made up of TER Bourgoge and Bus Divia. The website provides train and bus options to get to a destination and a timetable search.

Mobigo has two different travel cards for frequent travellers and commuters: 

  • Mobipro Annuel: a yearly travel card valid for both bus and trains
  • Pass Bourgogne Ile-de-France: for those commuting between Burgundy and the Paris region

Some Tips & Points
  • Booklets with train times and destinations for a local or longer trip are available at all stations and some tourist offices. TGV bookings must be made in advance
  • A ticket must be validated in the orange punching-machine in the station, before boarding; otherwise face a fine
  • There are various discount rates available for the young (Carte 12-25), the over 60s ( Carte Senior) and groups.

  • Discounts and special conditions are available for mobility, sight and hearing disabled people.

  • Dogs and cats may be taken on the trains, but there is a fee and conditions. Price depends on the size of the pet, and once aboard, a fellow passenger may, legally, request it be moved

Rail strikes in the Burgundy

From time-to-time the train service is reduced due to strike action. Schedules of trains running are posted on notice boards at stations. Information is also available from the website Info Traffic or by telephone on weekdays
